The Garden, 1887, 3:318: Large, semi-double, white, striped rose pink,
with holly-like foliage. Puddle and Hanger, 1960, RHS., The Rhododendron
& Camellia Yearbook, No.14, pp.153, 154: Semi-double, 6-9 cm across,
predominantly white with Carmine Rose 621 streaks and blotched; petals,
18-19 in 3 rows, 4.5 cm x 4.5 cm, obovate to orbicular, apex undulate;
stamens in central mass, filaments sometimes petaloid. Leaves dark green
glossy, narrowly elliptic to elliptic, margins finely and sharply
serrate, apex Long-acuminate, 10 cm long x 4-5 cm wide. Plant habit
compact, slender. Imported from Japan and obtained by L. van Houtte,
Belgium, from whom it was secured by the Caledonia Nurseries, Guernsey.
It is a most variable variety producing the sports: Yours Truly, Lady
Vansittart Blush, Lady Vansittart Pink, Lady Vansittart White, ‘Frances
